Gangubai Kathiawadi Movie Story

'Gangubai Kathiawadi' has been released in theaters this week. This film is based on the real story of 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' known as 'Mafia Queen'. 'Gangubai...' is the story of a woman's lifelong struggle. The basic story is that a girl named Ganga lives in a village in Gujarat.

She wants to go to Mumbai and become a Hindi film heroine. But when she reaches Mumbai, she finds herself in Kamathipura, the city's most 'disgraced street'. After getting into the business of prostitution, Ganga becomes Gangu.

Then Gangu meets the biggest don of the city, who calls her sister. From here the journey of Gangu becoming Gangubai begins. Whose highest point is his meeting with Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

Gangubai Kathiawadi Movie Review:

In many areas of the country, girls named 'Ganga' are called 'Gangu' or 'Gangubai'. It is part of local colloquialism. But in this film, the story of Gangubai Kathiawadi is shown breaking it into three parts.

These three parts are marked with names like 'Ganga', 'Gangu', and 'Gangubai'. Now let's do a little fact check. It is being claimed in many reports that a part of the film has been cut on the orders of the Censor Board.

In which the character of Gangubai meets the then Prime Minister of the country, Pandit Nehru. These are wrong news. That scene is in the film. And one of the most important scenes.

Review and Acting

Gangubai Kathiawadi is a proper Sanjay Leela Bhansali film with some glitches. One of the glitches we are talking about is the song 'Dholi Da' from the film. Gangubai dances freely in this song. But in the end, it stumbles. With the help of this scene, we were being shown the vulnerable side of Gangubai.

But it is completely different from Bhansali's brand of cinema. Sanjay Leela Bhansali is known for not keeping the scope of improvisation in his films. His game is planned to perfection.

If this scene was not planned, then thanks to Bhansali sahib for trying to do something different. And if it was planned, then Alia's performance in that scene should be praised.

There are many such scenes and dialogues in 'Gangubai Kathiawadi', which keep reminding you that you are watching the story of a sex worker. There is a scene between Alia and Jim Sarbh in the film.

In this, Jim's character introduces himself as a journalist. In response, Gangubai says- 'You journalist, I am a prostitute'. In another scene when Gangubai gives a speech on the stage.

Light moments are created in the film with such heavy lines. This un-apologetic attitude works in favor of this film. Gangubai Kathiawadi is not a story that you have not heard or seen before. All the films that have been made around this subject have more or less the same story.

We are not telling that story short or low. Our point is that 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' takes the same thing to a slightly grander level. Its heroine is not sad. He is the hero of his picture. Both dialogues and kicks.

Alia Bhatt has played the title character in the film. Alia is a capable actress. His work in this film is also outstanding. But you cannot live without imagining actresses like Tabu or Madhuri Dixit in that role while watching the film. Apart from him, Seema Pahwa has played the role of Sheela Masi.

Sheela is the woman who forcibly brings Ganga into the business of sexual intercourse. It is nice to see Seema Pahwa doing something different from the funny aunty role of a middle-class family. Vijay Raj has played a transgender character named Razia in the film, who has a lot of rage in Kamathipura. But Razia remains a filler-type character.

There are one or two scenes of Vijay in the film, in which he gets a chance to perform. But his screen time is very less. You want to see more of him in the movie.

Ajay Devgan appears in the film as Rahim Lala, which is inspired by real-life don Karim Lala. Despite being small, he emerges as an important character in the film. Because an incident changes the story of Gangu. Rahim Lala has a big hand in that change.

'Gangubai Kathiawadi' Kathiawadi is a well made film. Which should be seen on the big screen. Similarly, very few films are made herewith women in such roles. But there are some things in the film which are not understood. The first thing is its abrupt ending. The highest point of Gangubai's life in the film is when she meets the Prime Minister of the country to talk about the rights of sex workers.

After that, you are shown a ten-minute long montage, in which only Gangubai is walking around Kamathipura and shaking hands. A similar scene was also at the end of 'Ram Leela', when the funeral procession of Ram and Leela takes place. But behind that scene, voice-over is going on in the voice of Raza Murad. Which summarizes the story of the film. But nothing like that happens here. This part wobbles a bit.

Overall, 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' is a film that strengthens Alia Bhatt's portfolio. As both an actor and a star. This can be seen for good performance, beautiful songs and beautiful visuals. But there is no such thing in this, which can take this film in the category of 'must see'.

Talk about Alia Bhatt, who lives Gangu on screen, in real sense, she is the moon of acting here. Despite her slender physique, Alia has embodied the fearless attitude of mafia queen Gangubai with her expressions, physique, body language and has shown the critics that there could hardly have been a better choice for the character than her. Actors like Ajay Devgan, Vijay Raaz, Seema Pahwa, Shantanu Maheshwari, Jim Sarbh have also strengthened the film in their respective roles.

Another strong aspect of the film is its dialogues. The pair of Prakash Kapadia and Utkarshini Vashisht have composed many lively dialogues. Subrata Chakraborty, Amit Ray's production design and Sudip Chatterjee's cinematography go hand in hand in making the film beautiful.

As editor, Bhansali could have reduced the length of the film a bit. At the same time, the songs of the film composed by him are definitely in accordance with their time and story, but after coming out of the theater, apart from 'Dholida'... the rest of the songs are not remembered.

If anyone is the life of the film, then it is absolutely Alia Bhatt. Seeing Alia Bhatt on the big screen, it is clear that she has worked hard for the character of Gangubai. Alia Bhatt has done a great acting. Not only this, a change was also seen in Alia Bhatt's voice.

The way Alia has delivered dialogues in a strong voice to show her awe, it is amazing. Apart from Alia, the acting of Seema Pahwa, Vijay Raj and Shantanu Mishra and other co-stars has also been tremendous. However, Ajay Devgan has looked a bit pale in front of all these.

At the same time, talking about direction, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film did not enjoy it. Sanjay Leela Bhansali tried to make a biopic for the first time, but he appeared unsuccessful to us in it. Then whether it is in research or in direction and story. Nothing can be said on this film will keep the audience engaged.

However, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has to be praised for giving good music to the songs of the film. We have liked two songs from the film, one is 'Dholida' and the other is 'Jab Saiyan'. Both these songs are the life of the film.

Although a book has been written on Gangubai, if you are not fond of books, but want to be familiar with the story of Gangubai, then you can definitely watch Alia Bhatt's film 'Gangubai Kathiawadi'. If you have calmly known about Gangubai, then you can also skip watching this film.
